Tommies excited to step up in competition vs. South Dakota The St. Thomas football team has accomplished some impressive things in its first two seasons at the Division I level, including going unbeaten in the Pioneer Football League last season while managing to extend its home winning streak to 27 games. While they have had limited opportunity, one thing that eluded the Tommies so far is securing a victory against a Division I team that offers athletic scholarships. The Pioneer and the Ivy League are the only two conferences in Division I that don’t offer athletic scholarships, a distinction that has some viewing them as being Division I with an asterisk. The Tommies get their third crack at changing that perception this weekend when they face South Dakota of the Missouri Valley Conference in Vermillion. S.D. In its inaugural Division I season, St. Thomas fell on the road at Northern Iowa of the Missouri Valley, 44-3. Last season, the Tommies lost at Southern Utah of the Western Athletic Conference, 44-13.While St. Thomas head coach Glenn C...

Missouri could see major hike in gas prices soon KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas and Missouri drivers should prepare for a steep price increase at the pump, experts say. Gas Buddy, which monitors gas prices around the United States, Canada and Australia, predicts gas prices in the Midwest will spike anywhere from 50 cents to $1 per gallon over the next several days. Experts fear gas prices could get worse before they get better There are few details on what's leading to the increase, but Gas Buddy says a refinery outage could be to blame. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said the price hike could be limited if the EPA switches to the winter blend of gasoline early. "The spike in gas prices may be relatively short-lived, but the situation remains volatile," De Haan said in a news release. As of Thursday, wholesale gas prices in the Midwest were already up nearly $1 per gallon from one week ago, and AAA reports a gallon of gas is up 7 cents in Missouri and 3 cents in Kansas. But AAA did note on Thursday that the...

Keeler: CU football, Coach Prime are getting love from Patrick Mahomes, Bill Simmons, DJ Khaled, Snoop Dogg. How did Buffs become America’s Team? BOULDER — As Dylan Edwards flashed four fingers in the end zone, Tyrone Byrd’s Big Red heart slipped on cement shoes and sank to the bottom of Jamaica Bay.“Unfortunately, I think CU is gonna get us,” Byrd, a former Nebraska safety and now a State Farm agent in Commerce City, told me on the eve of Buffs-Huskers Part LXXII on Saturday at Folsom Field. “With what Deion (Sanders) is teaching and developing, with his high standards and (given that) the guys are buying in — they only had six penalties (in the opener).“And they’ve got some guys. Like he said, ‘I’m bringing dawgs.’ I don’t think (the Cornhuskers) have those kind of guys, where they think this way, they think, ‘I’m going to dominate.’ We have a lot of good athletes, but I just don’t know if we have enough guys that have that right mindset.”You know how you might not love something, or somebody, but at the same time, darn it, you just ca...

Video captures boogie boarders riding on bioluminescent waves in Huntington Beach Bioluminescence is not an unfamiliar sight in California, but when it's spotted, it's often aquatic creatures playing in the lit waters.Earlier this week, however, a photographer and videographer captured some humans getting in on the fun.In Huntington Beach, boogie boarders took to the ocean to catch some glowing waves, which are usually the result of plankton. Stunning video shows school of fish playing in bioluminescent water "It’s been a while since we’ve seen it here but the waves this time around were unbelievably bright," Patrick Coyne, who goes by @patrickc_la on Instagram, shared on the social media platform. "...The beach was crowded with people enjoying the show and we all had a blast. Let’s hope it’s there again tonight."Coyne, who has a talent for capturing stunning bioluminescent scenes, previously shared videos of dolphins frolicking in the waves off Newport Beach in 2020 and a school of mullet playing in bioluminescent water last year.
