Bill could give tax exemptions when buying fire safety products ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- Experts say there are around 164 fire related deaths every year in the state of New York. That’s why some are fighting for legislation that could make it easier for us to purchase fire safety products. Whether it’s fire extinguishers or smoke detectors, these safety products come with a price tag. Sponsor of the bill, Assembly member Monica Wallace feels it’s in the best interest of all New Yorkers to implement tax exemptions for safety products. At least for the month of October, "Ideally I’d like to see it all year round," said Wallace. Albany narcotics investigation leads to three arrests ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany police report three arrests after a search warrant on Central Avenue on March 8. The three individuals were arrested in reference to an ongoing narcotics investigation.On March 8 around 9 p.m., the Albany Police Department’s Emergency Services Team, along with the assistance of the Colonie Police Department’s Special Services Team, executed a search warrant at 592 Central Avenue. During the search warrant, officers report they recovered powdered cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. Several items used to distribute and sell narcotics were also located inside the home. All three individuals were arraigned on March 9 in Albany City Criminal Court. Sheriff's Department in standoff with alleged DUI driver in Compton The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is in a standoff with the driver of a fleeing vehicle in Compton.The pickup truck driver is accused of reckless driving under the influence, according to Sgt. Magana. The pursuit began as a traffic stop and the driver failed to yield. The driver now is also suspected of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer using a vehicle as a result of the chase. Aerial video from Sky5 showed deputies making several attempts at getting the driver out of the pickup, which was cornered by multiple law enforcement vehicles on a dead on West Poplar Street. At points, the driver leaned out of his window and appeared to be communicating with deputies, but he never fully surrendered. He also tried to back into a sheriff's vehicle while pinned, creating smoke from the tires, aerial video showed. 13 bodies found as San Bernardino County mountain communities dig out from snow Authorities say 13 people have been found dead so far following historic storms that buried the San Bernardino Mountains under several feet of snow, covering homes and paralyzing travel. Only one of the deaths, however, was weather-related, officials said. The person died at the hospital as the result of a crash during the storm, according to an updated news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Four of the people who died were either on hospice or died in the hospital, while eight deaths remain under investigation.
